CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had a meeting with globally-renowned cardiac surgeon Professor Magdi Yacoub during which he praised the humanitarian work of Egyptian healthcare institutions in Africa.
The meeting was also attended by Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation (MYF) Magdi Ishaq.
The meeting underscored Egypt’s commitment to highlighting the leading role of its medical institutions in providing high-quality healthcare services to Egyptian citizens, as well as to African and other developing countries.
Abdelatty praised Yacoub and his team for their pivotal role and genuine efforts in applying medical expertise to serve the most vulnerable populations in Egypt, and Africa, and developing nations.
He described these initiatives as a model of Egypt’s humanitarian diplomacy, aimed at fostering solidarity and building partnerships with African nations.

He commended the close cooperation between the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) and Professor Yacoub in implementing health and humanitarian projects in Africa, particularly the Egypt–Rwanda Heart Center (Professor Magdi Yacoub Center), scheduled to open this year as a regional hub for specialized medical care for African patients.
Abdelatty stressed the strategic importance of the Egypt–Rwanda Heart Center in establishing Rwanda as a regional medical hub in East and Central Africa, calling for mobilization of funding and the swift completion of technical and medical preparations for its inauguration.
Yacoub and Ishaq reviewed the foundation’s medical technologies, treatment programs, and capacity-building initiatives targeting doctors and medical personnel from across Africa and developing countries, aimed at strengthening healthcare systems on the continent.
At the conclusion of the meeting, members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ African Affairs sector commended the foundation’s pioneering humanitarian and development work, describing it as an inspiring example of the integration between Egypt’s humanitarian, development, and diplomatic efforts in Africa.
