Egyptian Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsi launched a humanitarian aid convoy provided by the Egyptian Red Crescent to support the Sudanese people and the Sudanese Red Crescent.
The launch was attended by Amal Emam, executive director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, a delegation from the Sudanese Red Crescent, and Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers.
The convoy includes around 70 tons of diverse humanitarian assistance, comprising food baskets, medical supplies and shelter materials — including mattresses, blankets, winter covers and relief items — which were prepared in line with priorities coordinated with the Sudanese Red Crescent.
Morsi said the convoy is a gift from the Egyptian people to their brotherly Sudanese people.
It is the first land convoy to travel roughly 2,000 kilometers to reach Sudanese territory, and is expected to arrive on New Year’s Eve, accompanied by a team of Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers.
She added that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed continued action in support of the Sudanese people, noting that the humanitarian response to the Sudan crisis has been the longest-running since the conflict began, lasting around 990 days to date.
She said the convoy represents a message of Egyptian solidarity with the Sudanese people as they seek to overcome the difficult phase the country is going through.
It is not the first convoy and will not be the last, she added, recalling that since 2023 three aid shipments totaling more than 1,000 tons have previously been sent by sea to the Sudanese Red Crescent, including medical aid, relief supplies, blankets, mattresses, personal protection items and food parcels.
