Egypt reaffirmed its support for peace and development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Abu-Bakr Hefny Mahmoud and DRC Deputy Foreign Minister Noella Nakwipone.
Mahmoud emphasised Egypt’s long-standing support for DRC unity and territorial integrity since the 1960s.
He welcomed the US-brokered peace agreement and efforts by the African Union and SADC to promote stability, emphasising the importance of coordination among the DRC, a non-permanent UN Security Council member for 2026–2027, the African A3 group, and Egypt, which is a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council.
Nakwipone thanked Egypt for its ongoing support in economic and developmental areas.Separately, Mahmoud met with UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction Kamal Kishore to discuss collaboration on implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
The discussions highlighted Egypt’s leadership in disaster risk management, including early warning systems and climate risk planning, with initiatives launched at the global climate conference, COP27, in Sharm el-Sheikh.
