CAIRO– Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty voiced Egypt’s keenness to attract more German investments to the local market.This comes in light of the positive developments in the country’s economic and investment climate driven by recent government policies, he said, during a meeting on Wednesday with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament (Bundestag).
The minister expressed appreciation for the committee’s role in supporting the Egyptian-German partnership, underscoring the importance of resuming cooperation between the two parliaments and highlighting the strength and depth of bilateral relations.Abdelatty underlined the growing momentum in relations between the two countries in the political, economic, investment and development spheres, praising Germany’s constructive contribution to development projects in Egypt.He reviewed the main pillars of Egypt’s foreign policy on regional developments, foremost among them the Palestinian issue.
He stressed the need to uphold the ceasefire and implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803.He also called for expediting the formation of an international stabilization force in Gaza, while underscoring the pivotal role of UNRWA and the importance of continued German support for the agency.The minister also addressed the situation in Sudan, reaffirming Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s security, stability, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.He outlined Egypt’s efforts within the Quartet mechanism to secure a ceasefire and create conditions conducive to launching an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity and stability.
Abdelatty called for intensified regional and international efforts to establish safe corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people and support Sudan’s national institutions.
Shifting to the water security file, the minister stressed the need to uphold international law governing shared water resources and pursue cooperation based on consensus and mutual benefit for all Nile Basin states.He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures in the Eastern Nile Basin that contravene international law, affirming that Egypt will take all measures guaranteed under international law to safeguard the existential rights of its people.
The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion with committee members, reflecting the depth of Egyptian-German ties and allowing for an exchange of views on key geopolitical challenges in the region.
