Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone on Thursday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh as part of ongoing coordination regarding developments in the Gaza Strip and the escalating tensions in the West Bank.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s long-standing position on the need to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, ensure unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and work toward launching a political process based on international references and the two-state solution in line with the principles and outcome of the Sharm el Sheikh Peace Summit.
The spokesperson said the two sides discussed the UN Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2803 on the situation in Gaza, including support for proposed arrangements related to establishing an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and the flow of aid as intended.
He said any security arrangements must remain temporary and transitional, paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to assume its full governance and security responsibilities, consistent with the principle of geographic contiguity between the West Bank and Gaza.
Abdelatty also stressed the importance of continued coordination on the upcoming international conference on early recovery, reconstruction and development in the Gaza Strip, and on mobilizing regional and international support to ensure effective implementation of reconstruction plans.
Both sides agreed to maintain close consultations within the coming period in support of Palestinian rights and efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the occupied territories.
