Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi announced on Monday the full details of the upcoming World Senior Individual Karate Championships set to be held in Cairo, affirming Egypt’s readiness to host an exceptional and historic edition of the global event.

The championship will take place at the Cairo International Stadium from November 27 to 30 and marks the highly anticipated return of the competition to Egypt after a 37-year absence, with the participation of delegations from 88 countries.

The announcement was made during a press conference that drew influential leaders from the international, Arab, and Egyptian Karate federations.

In their remarks, the international officials underscored that Egypt has emerged as a global model for organising world championships, emphasising that the decision to return the tournament to Cairo after a long hiatus reflects the International Federation’s profound confidence in the nation’s superior organizational capabilities and rapidly developed sports infrastructure.

Sobhi expressed his immense pride in hosting the global event, describing the return of the World Karate Championships as a clear testament to the strong support of the political leadership for Egyptian sports and the comprehensive development witnessed by the sector in recent years.

“Hosting this edition is not merely a sporting event, but a message confirming the Egyptian state’s ability to organize major international events according to the highest standards,” Sobhi stated.

He added that Egypt has become a preferred destination for international federations due to its advanced logistical and organizational capabilities.

The Minister affirmed that the hosting aligns with the state’s vision to enhance international tournament hosting, revitalize sports tourism, and bolster the national economy, ultimately establishing Egypt as one of the world’s leading sporting capitals.

The Ministry worked closely with the Egyptian Karate Federation and all relevant authorities to ensure an exceptional edition befitting Egypt’s stature.

World Karate Federation President Antonio Espinós confirmed that Egypt’s selection was a result of a long history of organizational successes achieved by Cairo.

“The World Federation closely monitored the remarkable development of Egypt’s sports infrastructure and organizational capabilities, which have become a global model,” Espinós said.

He confirmed that Egypt now possesses a comprehensive sports system capable of hosting the largest international tournaments with high efficiency, expressing complete confidence that this edition will be one of the best in the tournament’s history.

President of the Egyptian Karate Federation Mohamed el-Dahrawi affirmed that hosting the event after 37 years represents a significant milestone.

He detailed the comprehensive organizational system developed by the federation to deliver a top-tier championship, covering everything from welcoming delegations to technical infrastructure preparation.

El-Dahrawi also highlighted the national team’s ambitions: “The Egyptian national team enters the championship with high ambitions and a sincere desire to reach the podium.”

He confirmed that players have undergone rigorous training, and the coaching staff has prepared a comprehensive plan to to maximise performance in front of the home crowd, aiming for a significant medal haul.
