Egyptian Minister of Defence and Military Production Mohamed Zaki witnessed the signing ceremony of two memoranda of understanding in the field of military co-operation between Egypt and South Korea and a contract for the joint manufacturing of the EGY k9A1 Howitzer with the South Korean company Hanwha, in the presence of Kang In-ho, Minister of Defence Procurement of South Korea.

 

Lieutenant-General Ahmed Khaled, Deputy Minister of Defence, Commander of the Strategic Command and General Supervisor of Military Industrialisation signed two MoUs in co-operation in the fields of defence industries and logistical support, and another memorandum of principles organising co-operation in the field of defence research and development in order to coordinate and exchange military expertise between the two countries.

 

Head of the Armed Forces Armament Authority Osama Ezzat signed a contract with Hanwha Corporation to locally manufacture the Howitzer system (EGY k9A1) via the companies and factories of the Egyptian National Authority for Military Production.

 

Lieutenant-General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defence and Military Production, conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to the attendees, stressing that the General Command of the Armed Forces attaches great importance to military industrialisation and the development of armament systems, as it is one of the most important components of the armed forces military power.

 

He also pointed out to the keenness of the General Command of the Armed Forces to keep pace with the development in the global armament systems so that the armed forces always occupy a prominent position among the armies of the world with the reasons they possess of military strength, trained human capabilities and advanced armament that enable them to fulfill their responsibilities and historical tasks in preserving the security of the homeland and preserving its capabilities.

 

For his part, Kang In-ho, Minister of Defence Procurement of South Korea, expressed his great happiness for the military co-operation with Egypt, as it is a major regional power, looking forward to the next stage to witness more joint military co-operation and coordination between the two countries.

 

Engineer Mohamed Ahmed Morsi, Minister of State for Military Production, delivered a speech in which he stressed the continuation of coordination between all Egyptian state institutions and the armed forces to develop and upgrade the armament system to preserve Egypt’s national security.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by a number of commanders of the armed forces, chairmen of the boards of directors of companies of the National Authority for Military Production, the Arab International Optical Company, and the ambassador and defence attache of South Korea in Cairo.
