The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced Monday that Khalda Petroleum Company has made a new gas discovery in the Western Desert.
The ministry explained in a statement that the company succeeded in drilling the exploratory well “Gomana-1,” where electric logs indicated the presence of gas-bearing zones. Test results showed a production rate of about 36 million cubic feet of gas per day. Testing and initial reserve evaluation are currently underway in preparation for bringing the well onto the production map the day after Wednesday.
The discovery represents a new addition to Apache’s activities, the global partner investing in Khalda’s Western Desert fields, in the exploration and development of gas resources alongside crude oil, particularly after the introduction of new incentives approved by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to encourage gas investment in Khalda’s operating areas.
