Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment Manal Awad inaugurated Egypt’s first-ever mobile slaughterhouse on Saturday.
The project, designed and funded under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Development, was implemented as part of a contract for two fully air-conditioned mobile slaughterhouses between the ministry and BAN for Trade Investment Company.
The initiative follows directives from Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli to equip two mobile slaughterhouses for cattle and livestock in areas lacking permanent slaughterhouses, as well as in remote and border regions. The goal is to safely process imported livestock and provide citizens with safe meat.
The first slaughterhouse is a semi-automated facility combining European components with local manufacturing, measuring 12 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 4 meters high.
The facility also includes a meat washing unit and a seal storage chamber, with a daily slaughter capacity of approximately 100 cows and buffaloes.
Awad noted that the mobile slaughterhouse will initially be deployed to El Salloum, Matrouh governorate and can be moved to remote and border areas as needed. It will also be utilized during festivals and high-demand seasons across various governorates.
The minister highlighted that 20 government slaughterhouses have already been delivered to different governorates and are now operational to serve citizens.
She asserted the ministry’s commitment to providing safe and healthy meat, reinforcing slaughterhouse supervision and meeting local market needs.
