Sisi reviews efforts to position Egypt as hub for hosting int’l events
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to empowering its youth and advancing the nation’s sports sector as vital pillars for building the future and investing in human capital.
President Sisi made this statement during his meeting on Thursday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Lieutenant General Ahmed El-Shazly, Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority Major General Khaled Ahmed Abdullah, and Head of the Joint Engineering Authority Major General Walid Mohamed Aref.
Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said that the meeting addressed a number of topics related to the youth and sports sectors in Egypt.
In this respect, the Minister of Youth and Sports presented a comprehensive report highlighting national efforts to nurture young athletes and expand access to sports and youth development programmes.
He noted that “Between 2018 and 2025, the ministry implemented 532 programmes and activities, including the establishment of new facilities serving around 24 million young people, along with 115 initiatives benefiting 70 million youth and 928 sports programmes reaching 19 million young athletes,” the minister said as quoted by Spokesman Shennawy.
In the same context, he reviewed the integrated approach for youth development and sports enhancement in Egypt through youth and sports federations, youth cities and camps, sports clubs and, youth innovation centres, youth development centres, and youth facilities nationwide.
He further noted the diverse contributions of youth centres in supporting not only sports but also community service, health, cultural, scientific, digital, and political awareness initiatives.
In addition, the minister highlighted the ministry’s partnerships with private sector entities, including collaborations with private milk companies, which have achieved a LE34 billion return on investment between 2018 and 2025 through 548 successful commercial ventures.
The same period witnessed the establishment of 1,028 youth centre’s as part of the Hayah Karima (Decent Life) presidential initiative, enhancing youth engagement and developing sports fields and clubs across all governorates. The launch of a national project for youth camps in various regions also reflects Egypt’s drive to promote comprehensive youth investment and encourage sports participation.
The meeting also addressed the institutional and legislative development of the youth and sports system, including developing the organisational structure of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and regulating its operations, amending the youth organisations law, amending the sports law and issuing regulations governing its implementation. This is in addition to forming all necessary committees to ensure governance and transparency.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to position Egypt as a hub for hosting and organising continental and international sports events and championships, as well as for preparing and training Egyptian teams and athletes, and for discovering, developing, and nurturing talented athletes, including co-operation with the private sector.
The Minister of Youth and Sports reviewed the measures taken to implement the National Youth and Sports Strategy 2025-2032, which complements existing efforts and aims to improve the country’s performance in international indicators in this field.
President El-Sisi stressed the need to pay attention to the youth and to spread the culture of different sports among the Egyptian people and to adopt all the necessary measures to improve the level of youth and sports activities to the highest standards according to a scientific approach, to ensure the return on investment in human capital. This shall contribute to achieving development and the integrated and healthy upbringing of youth and children, maintaining the general health of Egyptians through the practice of sports and physical fitness and turning that into a lifestyle among Egyptians.
