In response to increasing tourism demand and in an effort to further diversify the hospitality sector, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced new regulations introducing an additional accommodation category: the ‘Holiday Home.’
This decision sets out clear licensing standards for this new model of holiday units.
Under the new framework, ‘Holiday Home’ accommodation refers to independently located properties consisting of at least eight furnished units, either apartments or studios, designed to offer essential services and welcoming both Egyptian and international guests.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy said that the decision is part of wider efforts to increase hotel capacity and further expand the variety of visitor experiences available in Egypt.
“These regulations are designed not only to ensure our valued guests enjoy high levels of comfort, security, and quality, but also to regularise existing accommodation and encourage new investment in the tourism sector,” he said.
The decision builds on Egypt’s recent tourism legislation (Laws 8/2022 and 27/2023) and follows earlier ministerial decisions aimed at expanding and regulating various types of holiday accommodation, including suites and villas.
Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments Mohamed Amer explained that the new license will be granted exclusively to buildings entirely composed of these holiday apartment units, which must be located in areas suitable for tourism or in recognised residential complexes.
“Licensed operators must notify the Ministry electronically and comply with all operational guidelines and required safety and quality standards before welcoming guests,” he added.
