CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Sunday with Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani as part of ongoing coordination and consultations between the two countries on regional developments and bilateral relations.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khalaf said the contact focused on the situation in Gaza, with both sides reaffirming full coordination and continued consultation in support of efforts to cement the ceasefire and build on the progress achieved at the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit.

The ministers also discussed the latest consultations regarding the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan.

The two ministers reiterated the consistent positions of Egypt and Qatar, especially towards the need to link between the West Bank and Gaza Strip, saying the Palestinians must run their own affairs within the framework of a unified national leadership.

The call also touched on ongoing discussions in New York regarding the deployment of an international stabilization support force with the two ministers underling the need to clearly define its mandate and powers to support early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

They addressed the situation in the West Bank, voicing strong opposition to settlement expansion and repeated violations that undermine prospects for peace and heighten tensions.

On Sudan, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in support of the country’s unity, stability, and national institutions, condemning the atrocities recently committed in El-Fasher.

He emphasized the urgent need to launch a humanitarian track to ensure unhindered delivery of aid, and called for intensified regional and international efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire and create the conditions for an inclusive political process that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people for peace, stability, and development.

The two ministers reiterated the depth of the fraternal ties between Egypt and Qatar and their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in investment, trade, and economic fields.

The discussion also covered Qatar’s new investment package in Egypt and the promising opportunities it presents for expanding Qatari investments in priority sectors.
