In response to unprecedented numbers of visitors, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo is introducing new measures for ticket purchases to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
Today, museum officials announced that ticket sales for weekend days (Fridays and Saturdays), as well as public holidays, will be available exclusively through the museum’s official website
This policy change follows a record-breaking attendance today, which exceeded the museum’s maximum operating capacity, prompting a suspension of on-site ticket sales.
Under the new system, purchasing tickets at the museum in person will not be available on weekends and public holidays.
Visitors are encouraged to book their tickets online ahead of their visit for these popular days. On all other days, guests will still be able to buy tickets both online and in person, subject to the museum’s capacity limits.
The management emphasised that these steps are designed to streamline the entry process and guarantee a high-quality, secure experience for all who come to explore Egypt’s rich cultural heritage.
All visitors with previously confirmed reservations will be welcomed as scheduled, with no changes to their tickets.
Museum officials expressed their heartfelt gratitude to guests for their understanding and enthusiasm, which they say reflects the GEM’s importance as one of the world’s foremost cultural and historical landmarks.
