Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty extended warmest congratulations to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the Egyptian people and Arab and African peoples on the occasion of approval by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) of the election of Khaled El-Enany as the new Director-General of UNESCO.
In a press release following the gathering held Thursday in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand, the ministry said, the well-deserved victory represents a new achievement added to Egypt’s record full of successes on the international stage.
Enany is the first Egyptian and Arab and the second African to assume the post of Director-General of UNESCO, marking a historic achievement, it added.
The step reflects prestigious status and international leverage of Egyptian foreign policy under the leadership of President Sisi during a critical phase, through which the region and the world are going, according to the statement.
The ministry noted that this result came after more than 30 months of diligent and continued effort.
Enany election was approved by 172 out of 175 member states of the General Conference, clearly reflecting the great trust he enjoys internationally and his competence and comprehensive vision for the work and future of the organization.
