Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el Wazir Monday said that the first phase of the Cairo Monorail will be inaugurated on Sunday, November 9, along with the trial operation of the high-speed electric train.
Wazir was delivering a speech at the second edition of the Cairo Forum (Cairo Forum 2), which is organized by the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES), with the participation of officials and local and international experts from 27 countries.
The East Cairo Monorail will play a key role in connecting Greater Cairo with the new urban communities to the east, including New Cairo and the New Administrative Capital, along with facilitating the movement of employees and commuters from Cairo and Giza to the new cities.
The line will integrate with the third metro line at Stadium Station in Nasr City, and with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) at the Arts and Culture Station in the New Administrative Capital.
The project extends from the Stadium Station in Nasr City to the Monorail Control and Operations Center in the New Administrative Capital, covering a distance of 56.5 km and comprising 22 stations.
The total length of both East and West Nile Monorail projects reaches 100 km, with 35 stations in total.
Each monorail train consists of four carriages, with plans to increase to eight as population density rises in the newly developed areas.
