CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reiterated on Sunday Egypt’s unwavering support of Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity and the extension of state authority across all its territory.
Abdelatty made the remarks during talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, currently on a visit to Cairo to attend the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Salam is to lead Lebanon’s delegation to the 10th session of the Egyptian–Lebanese Higher Committee.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tameem Khallaf said Abdelatty welcomed the recent momentum in relations at presidential and ministerial levels.
Abdelatty underlined the importance of the 10th session of the joint committee in strengthening bilateral cooperation and deepening consultations.
He also stressed Egypt’s interest in boosting economic and trade ties and activating existing agreements and MoUs to help achieve tangible progress.
He reiterated Egypt’s support for Lebanon in the face of repeated Israeli violations, and stressed the need for full, non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory.
The meeting also addressed regional developments, especially the situation in Gaza.
Abdelatty briefed the Lebanese premier on ongoing Egyptian efforts in coordination with regional and international partners to consolidate the Sharm El Sheikh ceasefire and implement its provisions in preparation for the reconstruction of the Strip.
He said preparations are underway for the Cairo Conference on early recovery, reconstruction and development in Gaza with broad Arab and international participation.
