The Faculty of Languages and Translation at the Sadat Academy for Management Sciences, in co-operation with The Egyptian Gazette and the GITC Training Centre of Dar Al-Tahrir for Printing and Publishing, held a ceremony to celebrate the graduation of the first batch of students of the Translation and Journalism Writing Programme.
The event marked the completion of an intensive 40-hour training course that provided students with practical instruction in various translation techniques and journalistic writing skills.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Dean of the Faculty Hala Tawfik, and attended by Director of the Translation Training Centre Ali Badawy.
Representing Dar Al-Tahrir were Editor-in-Chief of The Egyptian Gazette Mohamed Fahmy, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Gomhuria and member of the institution’s board of directors Nesreen Sadek, and Assistant Editor-in-Chief of Al-Gomhuria and Education Affairs Editor Mohamed Zein Eddin. Trainers Michael Marzouk, Mohamed Rabie, and Ahmed Yasser from GITC also attended. During the event, Tawfik announced that academic credit will be awarded to students who produce translated journalistic content suitable for publication in The Egyptian Gazette, as part of the faculty’s efforts to enhance students’ practical skills and link academic learning and professional experience.
For his part, The Gazette’s Editor-in-chief, Mohamed Fahmy, emphasised that organising such programmes stems from the national press’s social responsibility towards youth, and embodies a well-established belief in the importance of producing professionals who are capable of competing in today’s media market.
The initiative will continue and expand in the coming period, Fahmy stressed.
Addressing the occasion, Sadeq highlighted that Dar Al-Tahrir is fully committed to supporting and training students, adding that the cooperation with Sadat Academy reflects the institution’s confidence in the academy’s long-standing expertise.
She noted that broader training programmes are planned to include all students of the Faculty of Languages and Translation.
Certificates were handed to the students who successfully completed the programme.
