The National Press Authority (NPA) has officially celebrated the new Board of the State Information Service (SIS), which was appointed via a presidential decree —the first of its kind. The move signals a strong vote of confidence in national media expertise.
Among the key appointments is seasoned journalist Mohamed Fahmy, Editor-in-Chief of The Egyptian Gazette, and its weekly edition, the Egyptian Mail. His inclusion is a historic move, marking the first time a senior member of Dar El Tahrir for Printing and Publishing (Al-Gomhuria) has been appointed to the SIS board.
NPA Chairman, Engineer Abdel-Sadeq el-Shorbagy, expressed his profound appreciation for the presidential selection, describing it as a proud testament to the achievements of national press institutions.
He emphasised their pivotal role in shaping public awareness, countering misinformation, and portraying an accurate image of the country’s progress.
For his part, Editor-in-Chief Fahmy expressed great pride in the recognition, describing the appointment as a significant honour and a vote of confidence in the role of national journalism. He emphasised that joining the board is not merely a new responsibility but a badge of trust he values deeply.
Fahmy also praised el-Shorbagy’s leadership, noting his ongoing support for the national media reflects a broader commitment to strengthening state-owned press institutions. He added that this recognition, shared with fellow board members Dr Mohamed Fayez Farahat and Nevine Kamel (from Al-Ahram establishment), is testament to the importance of involving seasoned media professionals in shaping the national communication strategy.
