CAIRO – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour asserted that the ministry places great importance on supporting applied research and innovative projects that contribute to transforming scientific knowledge into marketable products and services.

He clarified that international co-operation with BRICS countries presents an opportunity to enhance the exchange of expertise and develop innovative solutions to common economic and societal challenges.

The Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) has announced the launch of the first call for proposals under the BRICS 2025 Innovation Project Funding Programme, said the ministry in a statement Sunday.

The program aims at supporting multilateral innovation projects that promote international collaboration between researchers, academic institutions and industry.

The programme focuses on transferring scientific research outcomes into practical applications. The expected results of these projects should include a tested prototype or system in an operational environment.

CEO of STDF Walaa Sheta said that STDF will support approved Egyptian research proposals with funding of up to EGP 10 million per project.

This funding will cover costs related to research teams, equipment, patents, prototype development, scientific publication, events and travel, Sheta said.

The duration of each project may extend up to three years, he added.
