Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised the role the United Nations plays in achieving peace and security, promoting sustainable development, and upholding the values of human rights.
He stressed the importance of respecting and adhering to international law in all international disputes, especially in light of the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Abdelatty’s remarks came during a meeting with Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Abdelatty also expressed his aspiration to strengthen relations between Egypt and the United Nations across various fields, including the specialized programs of UN organizations and agencies based in Cairo.
The foreign minister pointed out to Egypt’s interest in hosting more UN offices in Cairo to advance the purposes of the UN Charter and support the organization’s mission, as well as to meet the needs of refugees arriving from conflict areas.
He highlighted that Egypt currently hosts over 10 million foreigners of various nationalities and continues to bear growing burdens in hosting refugees and migrants, particularly due to instability in a number of neighboring countries.
