CAIRO – Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah el-Din Mostafa met Sunday at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Government District of the New Administrative Capital with Italy’s ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral co-operation in various manufacturing fields.
The minister of military production affirmed strong and long-standing relations between Egypt and Italy that have been witnessing notable progress recently with the support of the political leadership of both countries.
Mostafa reviewed the manufacturing, technological and technical capabilities of the Ministry of Military Production’s subsidiaries, which include 15 industrial companies, a construction company, an IT company, a center for scientific and technological excellence, a maintenance company, a training sector, a medical center, ammunition and weapons testing ranges, as well as an academy for advanced engineering and technology – making the Ministry a key pillar of national industry.
He said the Ministry’s primary role is to meet the needs of the Armed Forces and the police with military products (including small, medium, and heavy ammunition, weapons, equipment, tanks, armored vehicles, and advanced electronic systems) manufactured with the latest technologies. Surplus production capacity is directed toward producing high-quality, competitively priced civilian products and participating in the implementation of national and development projects across the country.
The minister also emphasised the Ministry’s keenness on opening up and cooperating with international companies working in similar fields, in line with the political leadership’s directives to localize advanced manufacturing technologies across sectors, expand the scope of both military and civilian products and enhance their quality and competitiveness in global markets.
Mostafa pointed out to fruitful partnerships between the Ministry’s companies and a number of Italian firms, including cooperation between one of the Ministry’s companies, the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage and Italy’s SILES for DP to establish six field silos in the governorates of Minya, Sharqia and Monufia.
He voiced aspiration to further strengthen this cooperation and open new horizons for strategic bilateral partnerships across various fields for the benefit of both sides.
The minister also invited Italian companies to participate in the International Defence Exhibition “EDEX 2025,” which will be held in Egypt from December 1–4, 2025, at the Egypt International Exhibition Center.
For his part, ambassador Quaroni voiced pleasure over holding the meeting, affirming the mutual understanding on the need to advance bilateral relations in various fields.
He noted the significant opportunities for enhancing military and civilian cooperation between the two countries, given their substantial economic and industrial capacities.
The ambassador also highlighted Egypt’s status as a promising investment destination due to its unique geographic location connecting Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, in addition to its energy resources, advanced infrastructure and skilled workforce. He praised Egypt’s remarkable progress across sectors and commended its influential role in supporting peace and stability regionally and internationally.
The ambassador also underlined Italian companies’ interest in cooperating with the Ministry of Military Production.
