CAIRO – Egypt voiced hope that efforts exerted by US President Donald Trump to end the Ukraine crisis and halt military operations will help bring the war to an end as soon as possible, given the grave political, security, humanitarian, and economic repercussions of the conflict, which have particularly affected developing countries, especially in the area of food security.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a settlement to the Ukraine crisis, while voicing expectation that the international community will also intensify its efforts in the Middle East to achieve a just and final resolution of the Palestinian issue.
It stressed the need for Israel to accept the deal approved by Hamas, based on a proposal by US envoy Steve Witkoff, in order to swiftly reach a ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and secure the release of hostages and a number of Palestinian prisoners.

Such steps, it added, would consolidate security and stability and revive the comprehensive peace process on the basis of the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions.
Egypt welcomed the US-Russian summit held in Alaska on August 15, as well as the August 18 meeting in Washington between the US and Ukrainian presidents and several European leaders.
The ministry affirmed that Trump’s efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis are fully consistent with Egypt’s position, which advocates political and diplomatic solutions to international disputes.
It reiterated that there can be no military solution to the conflict, stressing the need for serious negotiations, political will, flexibility, and commitment to international law and the UN Charter.
Egypt reaffirmed its readiness to work with regional and international partners, particularly the United States, to support efforts to promote global peace and security and bolster regional and international stability.
