CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining Lebanon’s security and stability, stressing Cairo’s full solidarity with the Lebanese people and support for the government and state institutions in preserving the country’s unity, sovereignty and stability.
Abdelatty made the remarks in a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during which they reviewed bilateral ties and the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.
During the call, Abdelatty conveyed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s greetings to President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Salam, affirming Egypt’s support for their efforts to uphold state authority.
They also discussed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Egyptian-Lebanese Higher Committee, to be co-chaired by the two prime ministers.
The committee’s meeting aimed at advancing cooperation in economic, trade and investment fields, supporting Lebanon’s reconstruction, and boosting coordination on regional issues of mutual interest.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm stances in support of Lebanon at regional and international forums.
He said Cairo is maintaining contacts with relevant parties to stop external interference and bring an end to Israeli violations, while respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and airspace.
He also stressed the need to secure the release of Lebanese detainees and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from the five occupied Lebanese points in line with international resolutions, including full implementation of UN Resolution 1701.
He stressed Egypt’s support for Lebanese national institutions to help carry out their duties in service of the Lebanese people.
For his part, Salam expressed appreciation for President Sisi’s continued support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, voicing keenness to deepen economic and trade cooperation and strengthen reconstruction efforts.
