Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on Monday, with the Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, Major-General Hassan Rashad, and the Head of Qatar’s State Security, Mr. Khalfan bin Ali bin KhalfanAl Kaabi, attending.
At the outset of the meeting, the Qatari Prime Minister conveyed greetings from His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and highlighted Qatar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly through joint investment initiatives aimed at advancing the interests and aspirations of both countries, the Presidency spokesman,Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said.
President Sisi expressed profound appreciation to the Emir and reaffirmed the shared will to elevate bilateral relations, address regional and international challenges, and unlock new avenues of strategic partnership.
Discussions during the meeting underscored the utmost importance of coordinated efforts, alongside the United States, to achieve an agreement that guarantees immediate ceasefire in Gaza and allows expedited and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip in addition to securing the release of hostages and detainees.
The discussions reflected emphasis on opposing any Israeli military reoccupation or forced displacement of Palestinians, spokesman Shennawy said, adding that the Egyptian leader and the Qatari prime minister stressed that establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with international legitimacy resolutionsrepresents the only path towards lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
In this context, President Sisi highlighted the importance of commencing the reconstruction of Gaza immediately after a ceasefire is reached as well as the importance of preparing to convene an international conference in Cairo for Gaza reconstruction in co-operation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, spokesman Shennawy said.
The high-level Egyptian-Qatari talks indicated conformity of visions on the importance of intensifying joint efforts to find political and peaceful solutions to crises that some countries of the region are facing, emphasizing in this connection the need for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of such countries, spokesman Shennawy said. The two sides, he added, agreed to continue consultation and coordination to safeguard shared interests and enhance regional security and stability.
