CAIRO – The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre published a video featuring the team responsible for developing and manufacturing the Egyptian respirator “EZVent”, the first fully locally-made device in accordance with the latest international standards and specifications.

The video explained that the research team from Cairo University, represented by the Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, highlighted the details surrounding the official commercial licensing of the “EZVent” device.

This marks it as the first critical care respirator to be entirely developed within Egypt, through national research, engineering, and medical efforts, in cooperation with a specialized medical company and according to top-tier international standards of performance and safety.

Dr. Hossam Salah, Dean of the Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, stated that this achievement is the result of years of research, development, and continuous work, emphasizing that the project reflects a unique integration between medical and engineering disciplines.

Dr. Abdel-Meguid Kassem, Vice Dean of the Faculty, noted that specialized workshops were held to train engineers on the medical applications of the ventilator before beginning pre-clinical trials at the Advanced Learning Center at the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Tarek El-Gohary, Head of the Critical Care Department at the faculty, pointed out that trials on the device began around four years ago and initially involved animal testing to ensure the device’s safety and effectiveness before proceeding to human use.

Dr. Mahmoud El-Fiqi, Professor of Surgery at the Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, confirmed that the device underwent a series of rigorous tests and was verified to fully comply with internationally approved standards for ventilators.

The video highlighted that this achievement reflects the success of the Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine in providing a stimulating research and organizational environment, which enabled effective collaboration between departments and ensured the project’s continuity at a high level of efficiency.
