EgyptAir has announced an expanded partnership with global aerospace giant Rolls-Royce, agreeing to purchase 12 Trent XWB-84 engines to power six new Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The announcement was made during the 2025 Paris Air Show, where the airline also confirmed that its total order of Trent XWB engines now stands at 32 units.

As part of the agreement, Rolls-Royce will provide full engine maintenance through its comprehensive “TotalCare” support programme, ensuring optimal operational performance and long-term efficiency.

Captain Ahmed Adel, Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company, described the partnership as a reflection of EgyptAir’s ongoing efforts to build a more modern and sustainable fleet.

“Our partnership with Rolls-Royce is a source of pride, and we are pleased to be deepening that relationship through this new TotalCare agreement,” Adel said. “The Trent XWB-84 is among the most advanced and efficient engines in the aviation industry, aligning perfectly with our vision for an environmentally responsible and high-performing fleet.”

Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer at Rolls-Royce, welcomed the agreement, saying:

“We’re delighted to meet EgyptAir’s request for an additional 12 engines to power six more A350-900 aircraft. This continued investment highlights their confidence in the strong synergy between the aircraft and engine.”

He added: “We thank EgyptAir for their renewed trust and look forward to supporting these aircraft as they enter service in the near future.”

The Trent XWB-84 is considered one of the world’s most efficient engines for wide-body aircraft and is specifically designed for the Airbus A350-900. Known for delivering the lowest fuel burn in its class, the engine offers airlines greater range and environmental benefits.

The enhanced “EP” version of the engine provides an additional 1% improvement in fuel efficiency—equating to estimated savings of $5 million annually for a mid-sized fleet.

Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare programme gives airlines operational certainty by transferring maintenance and lifecycle risks from the customer to the manufacturer. It includes real-time engine health monitoring and performance data, ensuring higher reliability, availability, and cost-effectiveness.

This latest move further underscores EgyptAir’s strategic focus on efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence as it continues to grow its global fleet and route network.
