Air Cairo has signed a strategic partnership agreement with MedAire, a leading global provider of medical and security support in the civil aviation sector, in a move that underscores the airline’s growing focus on international best practices in health and aviation safety.
The agreement was signed by Captain Ahmed Shannan, Chairman of Air Cairo, and Riley Rajan, MedAire’s Regional Director for the Middle East, Africa, India, and Asia. The ceremony was held in the presence of Captain Amr El-Sharkawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, along with senior executives from both companies.

Speaking at the event, Captain Shannan described the agreement as part of Air Cairo’s strategic plan to modernise its air safety framework, particularly enhancing crew readiness to handle medical emergencies in-flight. He noted that the new partnership will allow the airline to implement a range of advanced medical services, most notably “MedLink”—a 24/7 direct communication service that connects flight crews to emergency physicians specialised in aviation medicine.
“This service reduces unnecessary flight diversions and ensures timely medical care from qualified professionals,” Shannan said, adding that it will also include pre-flight medical assessments for passengers with chronic illnesses or special health conditions.
Such capabilities, he emphasised, will not only enhance operational safety and compliance but also ensure a higher standard of care and comfort for passengers.
The new partnership marks a significant step in Air Cairo’s broader development plan and aligns with global aviation leaders in terms of safety, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
MedAire’s Riley Rajan welcomed the agreement, stating that the collaboration “reflects a shared commitment to redefining onboard medical preparedness and safety standards.”
“This strategic alliance is part of a comprehensive effort to raise the bar on safety and medical innovation in aviation,” Rajan said. “With over 40 years of experience, MedAire is proud to bring its expertise to support Air Cairo’s growing network and operational ambitions.”

The new services are scheduled to go live across all Air Cairo flights by mid-July 2025. They will include an integrated suite of tools designed to support medical decision-making during flights and health assessments prior to boarding.
The initiative is expected to enhance operational efficiency, support regulatory compliance, and ultimately strengthen the airline’s reputation for passenger safety and well-being.
Air Cairo’s partnership with MedAire comes amid a growing global focus on in-flight medical readiness, particularly as airlines expand their networks and strive to meet evolving international standards in safety and passenger care.
