The Egyptian government and several ministries have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Khaled Mohamed Shawky, a fuel tanker driver who lost his life while heroically preventing a catastrophic explosion in 10th of Ramadan City.
Shawky sustained severe burns and later died in hospital after moving his burning fuel tanker away from a nearby gas station, an act that averted a potentially devastating incident. His courageous response was widely praised as an act of extraordinary bravery and selflessness.
The Cabinet, along with the Ministries of Petroleum, Labor, and Awqaf, paid tribute to Shawky, describing him as a national hero who sacrificed his life to protect others. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli directed that urgent financial support and an exceptional pension be provided to Shawky’s family. The Ministry of Labor has approved a disbursement of EGP 200,000, while the Ministry of Social Solidarity has allocated an additional EGP 100,000 to his wife and children.
Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy emphasized that Shawky’s actions serve as a powerful example of personal sacrifice in the face of danger. She also confirmed that the Ministry, in coordination with the National Organization for Social Insurance, has secured a special pension for the family in recognition of his heroism.
The Ministry of Petroleum praised Shawky’s quick thinking and dedication, stating that his actions saved numerous lives and prevented a larger-scale disaster. In tribute to his sacrifice, a street in 10th of Ramadan City will be named in his honor.
Minister Morsy extended her sincere condolences to the family, reaffirming the state’s commitment to recognizing and supporting those who act in the public interest with courage and selflessness.
