President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Friday from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during which both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between Egypt and Greece.
The two sides emphasised the growing momentum in bilateral relations and expressed their shared determination to broaden co-operation across various sectors, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy said. They also highlighted the long-standing historical ties that unite Cairo and Athens, as well as their joint interest in advancing the prosperity and welfare of their peoples.
During the phone conversation, President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the religious and spiritual significance of Saint Catherine’s Monastery. He affirmed that the monastery’s revered status remains untouchable , an assurance recently reinforced by a judicial ruling that aligns with Egypt’s enduring respect for the sanctity of religious and ecclesiastical sites, the spokesman said.
The ruling underscores the monastery’s exceptional spiritual, cultural, and religious heritage, reflecting Egypt’s dedication to preserving its historical and sacred landmarks, Ambassador Shennawy said.
