CAIRO – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said on Sunday Egypt’s healthcare system has undergone unprecedented progress over the past 10 years, surpassing achievements made in the previous 100 years.
Speaking during a meeting organised by the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC), Abdel Ghaffar said 1,500 healthcare projects have been implemented over the past decade at a total cost of EGP 211 billion.
He also highlighted the launch of 14 presidential health initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services for millions of Egyptians.
Development in the health sector also covered the increase in the number of hospitals, beds and intensive care unit as well as the launch of the Universal Health Insurance System, the minister said.
Mohamed Awad Tag el Din, Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention, reiterated the General Authority for Healthcare ‘s commitment to applying accurate scientific standards to ensure high-quality medical services that safeguard healthcare facilities, medical staff, and patients.
He added that Egypt is gradually working toward comprehensive health insurance coverage, noting that past presidential initiatives, such as “100 Million Healthy Lives, have significantly enhanced health services for millions of citizens.
