Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation said that Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are working on a joint project on Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus (WEFE Nexus) to draw on the expertise of the three countries in desalination for intensive food production.

Sewilam made the remarks during a meeting with Prince El Hassan bin Talal, the chairman of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), on the sidelines of the 7th Arab Water Week, currently taking place in Jordan.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan Mohamed Samir and Executive Director of the Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM) Marwan Alraggad.

During the meeting, Sewilam emphasized the importance of water desalination for intensive food production as one of the future solutions to confront water challenges in the Arab region.

The meeting reviewed ways of promoting cooperation between the Egyptian and Jordanian ministries of water resources and irrigation, in order to implement numerous projects under the umbrella of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus (WEFE NEXUS) approach and through cooperation with INWRDAM.
