Sisi attends graduation ceremony of Second Imam Training Course
Egypt will always remain beacon of moderate Islam that values humanity, honours reason, respects diversity, upholds justice
President stresses importance of preserving Arabic language
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi emphasised the growing need in today’s world for an enlightened religious discourse, sound thinking, and responsible speech. “From the very beginning, we have understood that renewing religious discourse must come at the hands of enlightened preachers — those who are rich in knowledge, broad-minded, aware of current challenges, and loyal to both faith and homeland.
They must be capable of offering practical solutions that address people’s problems and challenges, while upholding the core objectives and timeless principles of religion,” the president said. He added that the task of renewing religious discourse goes beyond correcting misconceptions. “It also involves presenting the true, radiant image of Islam as exemplified in the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), preserved by his companions, and reinforced by the great imams of guidance throughout history.”

President Sisi made these remarks as he attended on Tuesday the graduation ceremony of the second training batch for imams of the Ministry of Waqfs (endowments), held at Al-Manara International Convention Centre, said the Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy.He added that this batch — comprising 550 imams and spanning a 24-week training period — was developed as per the president’s directives to the Ministry of Waqfs. It was carried out in coordination with relevant state institutions, including the Military Academy, to implement a comprehensive programme aimed at enhancing the capabilities of imams.
The programme aims to improve religious discourse, develop communication tools, and counter extremist ideologies, while also promoting awareness of intellectual and societal challenges.“We are now witnessing the fruits of this constructive co-operation,” the president said. “This distinguished group of imams has received specialised training that blends the foundational sciences of religion with modern communication tools.
They are armed with a deep sense of national belonging, and a clear understanding of contemporary challenges—while remaining firmly rooted in religious principles.”He affirmed that Egypt, with its ancient heritage, esteemed scholars, and enduring institutions, has always been—and will remain —a beacon of enlightened, moderate Islam that values humanity, honours reason, respects diversity, and upholds justice and compassion.“What we see today is evidence of the state’s steady and determined progress in its national project to build a well-rounded Egyptian citizen—one whose intellect and spirit are both nurtured, and for whom religion serves as a foundation for progress, guided by values of belonging, moderation, and wisdom,” the president said. After concluding speech, President Sisi delivered several impromptu messages reflecting the state’s vision for raising balanced, responsible individuals capable of contributing positively to society.
He stressed that words alone are not enough to impact society; they must be translated into positive actions. As an example, he proposed using mosque premises not only for worship but also as spaces for educational services. He also underscored the importance of good neighbourly relations, proper upbringing of children, and embracing progress without compromising core values.Eventually, President Sisi stressed the importance of preserving the Arabic language and the vital role of preachers in defending freedom.
He affirmed that the training programme undertaken by the imams at the Military Academy was meticulously designed by experts in psychology, sociology, media, and other relevant fields, reflecting a comprehensive vision for societal development.
