CAIRO – President of the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) Alaa Shalaby commended a Cabinet’s decision on amending civil service law no. 149 of year 2019 to extend the period of legalizing the status of NGOs for another a year.
Shalaby, who is also a member of the National Council for Human Rights, told MENA on Thursday that the decision reflects strong relations binding the State and civil society following President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative for the participation of NGOs and foreign agencies working in Egypt in enacting the current law.
The move is intended to promote freedom of NGOs and contribute to building confidence to push forward the contributions of the civil society in development, charity work and human rights nationwide, he added.
