The leaders of Egypt, France, and Jordan convened a trilateral summit in Cairo to address the critical and deteriorating situation in Gaza. The summit focused on the urgent need for a cessation of hostilities and the provision of comprehensive humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian population.
The leaders expressed deep concern over the renewed Israeli military operations in Gaza and called for an immediate and unconditional return to the ceasefire. They emphasized the imperative of protecting Palestinian civilians and ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, underscoring that these are obligations under international law and international humanitarian law. Furthermore, they urged the full implementation of the January 19th exchange agreement, aimed at securing the release of all hostages and detainees and ensuring security for all parties.
The summit participants voiced alarm over the escalating tensions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, calling for an immediate halt to all unilateral measures that undermine the viability of the two-state solution. They also reiterated the necessity of respecting the historical status quo of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem.
The leaders unequivocally rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians from their lands or any annexation of Palestinian territory.
In a concerted effort to address the post-conflict reconstruction of Gaza, the leaders called for international support of the reconstruction plan adopted by the Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4th and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on March 7th. Discussions centered on the effective implementation of this plan, including security and governance aspects.
They affirmed that governance, security, and order in Gaza, as well as throughout the Palestinian territories, must be under the exclusive authority of a strengthened Palestinian Authority, supported by robust regional and international cooperation. They expressed their readiness to contribute to this endeavor in collaboration with partner nations.
President Macron and His Majesty the King of Jordan thanked President Sissi for convening this meeting.
