Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron have engaged in critical discussions regarding the escalating situation in the Gaza Strip, laying the groundwork for a trilateral summit with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Cairo. The high-level talks, conducted via telephone and preceding Macron’s scheduled visit to Egypt, underscore the urgency for a coordinated regional response to the humanitarian crisis and the pursuit of a sustainable peace process.

The focal point of the discussions centered on the imperative for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the expedited delivery of essential humanitarian aid to the affected civilian population. Both leaders reiterated their unwavering commitment to the two-state solution as the only viable pathway to achieving lasting stability in the region.

“In response to the Gaza emergency and during my visit to Egypt at President al-Sisi’s invitation, we will hold a trilateral summit with the Egyptian president and the King of Jordan,” President Macron announced via X, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the necessity for collaborative action.

Prior to this announcement, President Sisi and President Macron engaged in a comprehensive dialogue regarding bilateral cooperation, aiming to solidify and expand strategic partnerships between Egypt and France. Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy confirmed that the potential trilateral summit was a key point of discussion, indicating a concerted effort to leverage diplomatic channels for regional stability.

The phone call also served as an opportunity for the leaders to review Egypt’s ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian assistance. They emphasized the critical need for de-escalation and the restoration of calm, underscoring the shared understanding that the two-state solution remains the cornerstone of a durable peace framework.

The upcoming summit in Cairo is anticipated to provide a crucial platform for the three leaders to align their strategies and coordinate their responses to the complex challenges posed by the Gaza crisis, solidifying their commitment to regional stability and a just resolution.
