Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Bassam Rady announced yesterday that the Central Auditing Organisation (CAO) has been elected as the legal and financial auditor for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for the next six years. Rady emphasised that this selection was the result of a year-long, concerted effort led by the Egyptian Embassy in Rome in coordination with senior CAO officials. The selection process unfolded in multiple stages, culminating in a final round this month that shortlisted only three countries — Egypt, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines — out of several major Western contenders. In the decisive vote, Egypt secured a majority, prevailing over both the British and Filipino bids, despite their well-established global reputations in auditing and legal oversight.
The ambassador highlighted that CAO’s accreditation as FAO’s official auditor marks a significant milestone, underscoring Egypt’s extensive expertise in this field. He noted that this achievement not only strengthens CAO’s international standing but also creates new opportunities for its expansion as a globally recognised auditing body.
