CAIRO – Egyptian Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy, the former assistant foreign minister for Asian affairs, said the visit of South Korean President Moon Jae-in to Egypt on Wednesday will be historic at all levels.
The diplomat told middle east news agency ” MENA” on Monday that the visit, which will be the first in 16 years, reflects strong and growing political and economic ties between both countries.
The ambassador shed light on the visit of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to South Korea in 2016, which has led to strengthening strategic partnership and carrying out several major development projects.
Hegazy added that trade exchange between both countries hit $2.5 billion.
Moon is currently on a Middle East tour that will see him visit the UAE on January 16-17, then Saudi Arabia on January 18-19 and Egypt on January 20-21, with a view to fostering bilateral ties and raising the investments of Korean companies in the three countries.
During his stay in Egypt, the South Korean leader would take part in an Egyptian-Korean roundtable to consider cooperation in renewable energy and eco-friendly industries.
