In a significant step reflecting the depth of their strategic relations, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement to launch a national programme to improve energy efficiency in Egypt.

In implementing the programme, Egypt will seek to benefit from Saudi expertise and technical support.

The agreement was signed during the opening of the  8th edition of Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025), attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, and senior officials from the energy sector.

This collaboration underscores the growing importance both nations place on energy co-operation as a key pillar of sustainable development.

The agreement focuses on knowledge sharing and the development of integrated policies to achieve sustainability.

It includes the establishment of precise technical standards and the necessary infrastructure to enhance energy efficiency in Egypt.

One of the key highlights of the deal is a study on creating a joint entity for renewable energy projects in Egypt, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Tarsheed organisation.

This initiative aligns with Egypt’s ambitious goal of sourcing 42% of its energy from renewables by 2030.

Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced the launch of five new Saudi projects in Egypt, focusing on solar and wind energy.

Additionally, plans are underway to establish Egypt’s largest wind energy project, further boosting the country’s capacity to generate electricity from clean and sustainable sources.

Another promising initiative is the Egypt-Saudi electricity interconnection project, which, upon completion next year, will enable the exchange of 3 gigawatts of electricity.

This project aims to enhance grid stability and ease growing demand in the energy sector.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman’s speech at the conference was not just about economic co-operation. It was a heartfelt expression of deeply-rooted ties between the two nations.

He was not just into diplomatic rhetoric when he said, “We consider ourselves an inseparable part of Egypt, just as you are an inseparable part of the Kingdom”.

The Saudi minister was rather expressing the genuine connections between the Saudi and Egyptian peoples.

The Saudi minister also described Egypt as “all things beautiful”, given its rich culture, history, and warm hospitality.

His words resonated strongly with the attendees, reaffirming that the Egypt-Saudi relationship goes beyond politics and economics, amounting to a deeply entrenched fraternal bond.

This growing co-operation in the energy sector is just one aspect of the broader and historic partnership between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which spans investment, culture, and tourism.

The agreement reflects both nations’ commitment to integration and collaboration, driven not just by mutual interests, but by deep respect and shared aspirations for progress and prosperity.

As Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman aptly put it: “It’s not that there is something beautiful in Egypt, but Egypt is all beautiful”.
