Israeli occupation authorities released the sixth batch of Palestinian prisoners on Saturday, in accordance with the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The released prisoners include 36 detainees serving life sentences and 333 detainees from Gaza detained after October 7, 2023, according to a joint statement by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society and the Palestinian Authority’s Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, 29 of the released prisoners are from the West Bank and 7 from the occupied Jerusalem, reported the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Meanwhile, 24 prisoners serving life sentences were deported outside of Palestine.
Israeli forces turned the area near Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah, into a military zone, blocking families from gathering to welcome their loved ones and firing live ammunition and tear gas at them.
Despite the restrictions, hundreds of Palestinians and relatives of the released prisoners gathered early in the morning at the Mahmoud Darwish Museum in Ramallah to greet the freed detainees, waving Palestinian flags in celebration of their release.
