CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the necessity of finding a political horizon leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian State based on a two-state solution.
Abdelatty’s remarks came during a meeting with US Senator Susan Collins, the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, in Washington on Tuesday.
During their meeting, Abdelatty lauded Egyptian-US relations that have extended for more than four decades and the active interaction between Egypt and US Congress.
Abdelatty also underlined the vital role played by Egypt in shoring up security and stability in the Middle East region.
They also exchanged views on the conditions in Gaza. In this regard, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s firm position on the Palestinian issue, underlining Egypt’s efforts to implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the exchange of hostages and prisoners in its three phases, and the delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Abdelatty also stressed the importance of scaling up early recovery programs in Gaza that pave the way for accelerating the reconstruction process.
For her part, US Senator Collins stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States.
She expressed deep appreciation of the key role played by Egypt in de-escalation in the region and achieving security and stability in the Middle East.
She also appreciated Egypt’s mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
