bp has successfully completed the drilling of the “El King-2” exploration well in the North King Mariout Offshore Concession, marking a key milestone in its West Nile Delta (WND) four-well drilling campaign.
Spudded on January 14, 2025, using the Valaris DS-12 rig, the well reached a measured depth of approximately 2,400 meters, encountering two prospective Messinian reservoirs. Following the completion of “El King-2,” the DS-12 rig will proceed to drill the “Fayoum-5” exploration well in the North Alexandria concession.
Nader Zaki, bp’s Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, stated: “This discovery reaffirms our commitment to exploring and appraising gas resources that bolster Egypt’s energy security and economic growth. With our established infrastructure, strong execution capabilities, and strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum, we are well-positioned to fast-track the development of this discovery and supply gas to the domestic market efficiently.”
Wail Shaheen, Vice President of bp Egypt, added: “Our focus remains on maximizing production from existing resources, identifying new opportunities, and leveraging our infrastructure to support the country’s growing gas demand while reinforcing Egypt’s role as a key energy player in the region.”
