Sisi: Displacing Palestinians injustice we won’t be part of
President: No leniency in matters affecting national security
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi emphasised that the displacement and relocation of the Palestinian people from their homeland is an injustice that Egypt cannot be part of. He reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding commitment to the Palestinian cause, a stance that cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
In a joint press conference held on Wednesday with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto at the Ittihadiya Palace, President Sisi stated that the only viable solution to the ongoing conflict is the establishment of a Palestinian state with historical rights, based on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The president further highlighted that these historical rights cannot be overlooked, and that public opinion in Egypt, the Arab world, and globally recognises the historic injustice that has been inflicted on the Palestinian people for the past 70 years. He stressed that Egypt will not participate in such injustice.
He reiterated that the constants of the historical Egyptian position on the Palestinian issue can never be compromised.
He also recalled that Egypt had warned at the onset of the war about the potential objective of making life in Gaza unbearable, leading to the forced displacement of Palestinians. Egypt’s position from the beginning has been a firm rejection of such actions, said President Sisi.
President Sisi also underscored that no leniency can be allowed in matters that affect the national security of Egypt and the Arab world. He added that Egypt committed to working with US President Donald Trump to reach the desired peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, President Sisi stated, “What has transpired in Gaza since October 7, 2023, is the result of a long-standing failure to resolve the Palestinian issue from its roots.” He added that the ongoing crisis is a direct consequence of years of neglecting comprehensive solutions, with flare-ups occurring periodically, as seen recently in Gaza.
The president reiterated the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which was achieved through extensive Egyptian efforts in collaboration with Qatar and the United States. He called for the complete delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation and to initiate a genuine political process toward a lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
