CAIRO – World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Egypt Nima Saeed Abid hailed Egypt’s success in controlling hepatitis B virus (HBV) as a “milestone” that adds to the country’s list of the eradicated epidemics, including hepatitis C and Malaria.

Abid, in exclusive statements to MENA on the sidelines of the 17th international conference for breast tumors, commended Egypt’s ongoing efforts to eradicate breast cancer.

The regional committee of WHO declared that Egypt has achieved the regional goal of combating Hepatitis B, Abid added.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, said WHO had issued a new certification confirming that Egypt has reached the regional goal for Hepatitis B control as the Ministry of Health and Population succeeded in reducing the Hepatitis B prevalence rate to less than 1% among children aged 5 years or older.
