CAIRO – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reviewed developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file and expressed appreciation for South Africa’s efforts in this context, stressing his aspiration that this vital issue would make the cherished progress in the coming period
The President’s remarks came in a phone call with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the phone call, the President said that progress in the dam issue can be achieved through cooperation with the upcoming new presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo of the African Union and in a way that would help in reaching a binding legal agreement that preserves Egypt’s water rights.
The President also reviewed the ongoing preparations for the next annual African summit, which is scheduled to take place via video conference. He also congratulating President Ramaphosa on the successful presidency of the African Union during 2020, which coincided with many regional and international challenges, foremost among which is the coronavirus pandemic.
For his part, President Ramaphosa expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude for the Egyptian support to his country in various aspects of continental work during its presidency of the African Union, which reflected Egypt’s keenness, under the leadership of President Sisi, to advance the common interests of African countries and to seek solutions to the issues and crises facing the continent.
