AMMAN – Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Jordanian House of Representatives Dina Albashir, praised the Egyptian efforts that led to achieving and implementing a ceasefire on Sunday in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, stressing that though reaching a deal was long awaited and everyone paid the price for, but it was historic and all parties must work to implement this agreement.
In exclusive statements to MENA Sunday, commenting on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ِAlbashir said, Egypt and Jordan have made great efforts to reach this moment and from the first moment of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, holding in high esteem Egypt’s efforts to implement the ceasefire, with full coordination and partnership with Jordan for the arrival of aid.
Albashir said coordination, consultation, and strategic partnership between Cairo and Amman always aim to achieve security and stability in the region, resolve Arab issues through diplomatic channels and spread peace, with a view to preserving Arab national security, stressing that Egyptian-Jordanian relations are deeply rooted and historical and aim at advocating peace, security and stability throughout the region and the world.
She said after the ceasefire, Egypt and Jordan are working to provide more humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, especially in light of the current humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip due to the Israeli obstinacy affecting the flow of aid, saying that the agreement explicitly stipulated allowing the flow of aid as was the case before.
The head of the foreign affairs committee of the Jordanian house of representatives pointed out that since the beginning of the war, Egypt and Jordan have been providing aid by all means; land and air, to Palestinians in Gaza, noting that the current situation requires more cooperation and coordination
to secure aid flow.
Albashir said the international community, international humanitarian organizations and all Arabs must help Egypt and Jordan in order to continue their humanitarian role towards Gaza and the Palestinian people, adding that Cairo and Amman alone cannot provide sufficient aid to the people of Gaza and the West Bank at the present time.
She also underlined the importance of rapid reconstruction of the Gaza Strip so that a decent life can be restored to the people, saying that Arab and international support for reconstruction must begin from the first moment of stopping the war in Gaza.
The Jordanian parliamentarian appreciated the humanitarian and diplomatic efforts made by Egypt and Jordan in this regard, noting that Cairo and Amman have worked from the beginning on ceasefire efforts in parallel with providing aid, representing an exemplary model of Arab-Arab cooperation and coordination.
Albashir referred to relentless efforts exerted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah II, noting that their efforts have not stopped since the war began until now, saying that the Palestinian issue is the central and most important issue for the Egyptian and Jordanian leaderships, governments and peoples.
She voiced hope that all parties would commit to implementing the ceasefire in Gaza and that security and stability would be achieved in the region, calling on the international community to follow up on the implementation of the ceasefire and work with partners in order to ensure its complete success.
Humanitarian aid trucks began to enter the Gaza Strip from the Egyptian side, carrying on board humanitarian aid that will be provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip with the start of implementation of the agreement.
Last Wednesday, it was announced that a ceasefire agreement was reached in the Gaza Strip envisaging the exchange of prisoners and detainees between Israel and Hamas and restoring calm, to be implemented in three stages, mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the US as the agreement entered into force as of Sunday.
