Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had talks over the phone Thursday with Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom David Lammy on the latest developments related to the situation in the Gaza Strip, the agreement reached for the exchange of prisoners and detainees, and the return of sustainable calm to achieve a permanent ceasefire.

Foreign ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty briefed his British counterpart on Egypt’s intensive efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to reach the agreement. He also highlighted the importance of scaling up humanitarian aid delivery in the coming phase across the entire Gaza Strip, rehabilitating hospitals and health centers, and facilitating the return of displaced persons to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in the war-torn Palestinian enclave.

Also, he emphasized the importance of implementing the deal and ensuring its successful implementation through its various stages, confirming that Egypt will continue its efforts to fulfill its commitments under the agreement, in full coordination with Qatar and the United States.

For his part, the top British diplomat affirmed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in reaching this important agreement.
