‘Egypt remains staunch defender
of Palestinians’ legitimate rights’
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
In a post on his official social media page, President Sisi said “I welcome the Gaza ceasefire agreement that was reached after arduous efforts spanning more than a year with Egyptian, Qatari, and American mediation.”
“With this agreement, I stress the importance of expediting the delivery of urgent and unrestricted humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza to address the current catastrophic humanitarian situation until sustainable peace is achieved through a two-state solution, allowing the region to enjoy stability, security, and development in a world that offers opportunities for all,” he said.
President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to remain a staunch supporter of just peace, a faithful partner in achieving it, and a defender of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
US President-elect Donald Trump announced the successful negotiation of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which includes the release of hostages. In a statement shared on his social media platform, “Truth Social,” Trump wrote, “We have a deal on hostages in the Middle East. They will be released soon. Thank you!” This comes just five days before Trump’s official return to office.
Meanwhile, reliable sources told Al-Qahera News channel that the ceasefire agreement reached in the Gaza Strip includes the exchange of detainees and hostages along with ensuring sustained calm in the coastal enclave to achieve lasting ceasefire and secure Israeli forces’ withdrawal.
The sources said the agreement stipulates the release of all Israeli detainees in Gaza, whether civilians or soldiers, alive or deceased, in exchange for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
Additionally, the sources indicated that the agreement stressed the need for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, the reopening of border crossings, and the facilitation of movement for residents and the transfer of goods.
