Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Sudan and its national institutions as well as the necessity of preserving the safety and unity of Sudanese territories.

During an official session of talks held in Port Sudan Wednesday between the Egyptian minister of foreign affairs and his Sudanese counterpart Ali Youssef al-Sharif, Abdelatty voiced his appreciation of having frequent meetings with the Sudanese top diplomat, noting that this attests to the strength of ties binding the two sisterly countries, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf.

The minister stressed the importance of reaching a ceasefire, along with keenness on exerting strenuous efforts to restore security and stability in Sudan, the spokesman said.

Abdelatty also hailed measures adopted by the Sudanese government to facilitate access of humanitarian aid, thus reflecting its great interest in alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese citizens, he added.

According to the spokesman, the Egyptian minister expressed his happiness over holding high school exams for about 28,000 Sudanese students in Egypt recently, within the framework of the great importance Egypt attaches to helping Sudanese students complete their educational journey.

Meantime, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s drives meant to ensure Sudan’s resumption of its activities in the African Union (AU), in addition to its active involvement in various regional and international endeavors aimed at preserving Sudan’s security, stability, unity and territorial integrity, said the spokesman.

The two ministers took up the file of water security, as they expressed their appreciation for continued cooperation and coordination on this vital issue, with a view to safeguarding common interests of the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples, he added.

The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination to ensure the preservation and protection of water security for Egypt and Sudan, being an inalienable right, said the spokesman.

Earlier in the day, the Egyptian foreign minister headed for Sudan upon directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to have talks with the Sudanese side on ways to promote bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in Sudan.

The foreign minister is also scheduled to hold a number of meetings with senior Sudanese officials on the outcome of recent ministerial visits between the two countries’ officials, as part of efforts meant to continue providing support to the sisterly Arab country.
