Egypt and Tajikistan signed three co-operation documents in several fields.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan to enhance trade exchange, economic partnership, and knowledge sharing in macroeconomic forecasting, improving modeling mechanisms, and developing new models for social and economic development in both countries.
Separately, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania el Mashat signed the 2024/2025 joint action plan between the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and Tajikistan’s State Unified Enterprise “Tajinvest”.
The plan seeks to establish a joint working group to implement a previously signed MoU, exchange expertise, and best practices in services offered to investors, and share experiences in investment promotion activities and business environment enhancement.
Additionally, the minister signed a cooperation agreement on mutual assistance in customs files, aimed at facilitating the movement of goods in line with international standards and best practices, information exchange, and mutual support in regulatory and other related areas.
The two sides also signed a protocol for the third session of the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, covering 17 developmental areas of mutual interest.
The third session of the Egypt-Tajikistan Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation was co-chaired by Mashat and Tajikistan’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zokirzoda Zavqi Amin, following the first session in 2009 and the second in 2019 in Cairo.
During the ministerial committee, both sides explored investment opportunities for Tajik companies in Egypt and partnerships with the Egyptian private sector, particularly in food and pharmaceutical industries, tourism, construction, furniture, and textiles. They also discussed measures to boost trade exchange, attract investments, and enhance cooperation in free economic zones, industrial sectors, renewable energy, and aluminum.
