President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday expressed keenness on maintaining joint action to serve the interests of African peoples and developing nations.
The two leaders gave the remarks during a meeting held on the sidelines of BRICS summit, currently in session in the Russian city of Kazan.
Egypt’s presidential spokesman said the two leaders also expressed keenness on promoting bilateral relations to be a model to be followed by rest of countries in the African continent.
They underlined the need to diversify frameworks of cooperation at the political, economic and security arenas, the spokesman said.
Talks tackled efforts of Egypt and South Africa towards the Palestinian issue as the two leaders underlined the importance of maintaining consultations at all levels to defuse tension in the region, reach a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and stop violations in the West Bank.
They called for ensuring an immediate and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip. The South African president lauded Sisi’s efforts in this regard.
The two leaders also mulled ways of prioritizing African development on the global agenda and within the BRICS framework, reiterating keenness on achieving interests of African and developing nations.
